Basket Weaving
Create your own traditional Adirondack pack basket! Adirondack guides carried trapping supplies and animal pelts in these baskets; today, the can be used as an alternative to a backpack on hiking and camping trips, to carry sand toys to the beach, or for storing blankets or stuffed animals at home.

Camp Information
  • The small size pack basket is the appropriate size for adolescents and teens; the base in 6” by 9” and finished dimensions of the basket are 10 1/2” at the widest part by 15” tall.
  • Students can choose to make traditional lashed on skids, or add a solid wood base. Students can also choose light brown, olive green or red straps. No prior basket making experience is necessary, and all tools and materials will be provided by the instructor.
  • A $35 materials fee is due to the instructor on the first day of camp. **Wooden base available for additional $20 cost.
  • Camp will be held at the Guilderland Ballet Barn (200 Timothy Way, Slingerlands, NY) - The building is located behind the Guilderland Atria off of Route 155

COVID-19 Adjustments
  • Each student will have their own tools -Tools will be sanitized daily.
  • Students will maintain social distancing by only having 1 to 2 children at each table.

Instructor's Experience
Born and raised in Long Lake, Shea Farrell Carr has been making baskets since 1992. She took ownership of Adirondack Basket Case from her mother, Patty Farrell, in 2009. In addition to basket making, Shea is also a high school history teacher, and lives in Slingerlands with her husband and two children.
