Dear Guilderland Families,

We hope you are all safe and healthy!  Our office has worked diligently over the past 3 months to find ways to offer programming to residents this summer.  We have looked into State and CDC guidelines, the American Camp Association COVID-19 Camp Operations Guide, and have discussed all of our plans with the Town EMS Department and the Town Supervisor.  We are happy to announce we will be offering a modified camp calendar this summer, and plan to implement many measures to keep campers, instructors and staff safe.

Registration will open online at GuilderlandRec.com on Monday, June 8th at 12pm.  Camps are slated to begin the week of Monday, June 29th.  All camps will operate on a drop off/pick up system - we will not provide busing this summer.  A detailed Recreation Programming COVID-19 Participant Guidance outline is available on guilderlandrec.com under the General Info then Dept Info.  Please take time to read through it carefully. It outlines the expectation and procedures of all participants - parents/guardian, campers, instructors and camp staff - to keep all involved safe. There is a chance guidelines could change throughout the summer - all families will be updated if this is the case.

The Tawasentha 1/2 Day Camp is proceeding forward with reduced available registrations and alternate activities. Sadly, at this time we will not be able to offer swim lessons through the day camp program.  We do not see how we can offer lessons within the guidance of distancing regulations safely.  We have plenty of alternative water games to offering as a cool down and a wide variety of distancing games to play.  The Day Camp program is still awaiting further guidance and approval from the Albany County Department of Health.


Enrichment and sports programs will also proceed forward with adjusted/modified programming.  All camps will be held at Town owned buildings and park fields and pavilions - there will not be any programs held at school district facilities.  These programs will be capped to follow current gathering size limits, and will be smaller than normal so that social distancing is possible.  If the approved gathering size increases, families on the wait list will be contacted and given the opportunity to participate in the camp.  If additional adjustments need to be made - an email will go out to participating families.  We also have some virtual camp offerings which will utilize Google platforms!

The pool opening date will hopefully be July 6th, however opening is dependent on the Department of Health - Our facility must be inspected and certified to operate by the County Health Department in order to open.  The DOH may have requirements that facilities must meet to be open, and Tawasentha Pool may have different hours and new rules in order to follow those requirements. Our office is still closed to the public until June 15th, but we are here to answer questions Monday - Friday 8am - 3:30pm, call the office at 518-456-3150.  We are excited to be able to offer programming to Guilderland families this summer, and we thank you for your patience with our adjusted schedule!

When you register for camps this season, we will be looking for your child's most recent immunization record. If you submitted a copy of your child’s immunization record to our office, they are now added to your GuildelandRec account.  Please take a moment to review each member of your household account.  We will need an up-to-date submission of your child’s immunization record prior to the beginning of camp.  


For your convenience, we will be implementing a feature that allows you to upload your child's records directly to your account. The steps to upload immunization records are as follows:
 

  • Login into your Account
  • Click “Members”
  • Select a Member by clicking on their name
  • Scroll to the bottom - you will see Required Documents and Immunization Records
  • Click on “Upload”
  • Click “Browse” to upload the file
  • Click “Submit”

Please note there is not a clear indication which file or even if the file was uploaded successfully.   
Steps can be repeated if necessary.  If you experience any difficulty, for assistance, call the Parks and Recreation Office at 518-456-3150.  In addition, records may be mailed or dropped off to Guilderland Parks and Recreation, 181 State Route 146, Altamont, NY 12009, faxed to 518-456-3156 or emailed to boyta@togny.org.  The submission of immunization records will be reviewed and approved by the Parks & Recreation Department.
