Welcomes You

Dear Residents,

As you are aware, New York State is experiencing the largest outbreak of measles in more than two decades.  The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has provided the Parks & Recreation Department with an informational letter reiterating immunization records protocol, how to effectively recognize, respond and report measles to our local health department.  It is required that immunization records must be kept on file for every camper and updated annually.   No child will be prevented from attending camp because he/she is not immunized! If a child has not received immunizations, a written and signed statement from the parent or guardian stating the reason (due to their religious beliefs, immunosuppression, serologic immunity, medical, etc.) should be included with the child's health history.  Please submit your campers’ most recent record to the Parks and Recreation Office, 181 State Route 146, Altamont, NY 12009, fax 518-456-3156, or email it to or    Feel free to drop them off at during our office hours between 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.  If needed, we do have a locked black mailbox outside the front door for your convenience. Please contact our office at 518-456-3150, if you have any additional questions or concerns.

The Guilderland Parks & Recreation Department is excited to offer exceptional programming that promotes fun, fitness and a wide variety of activities designed to enrich your child’s summer experience. Although it may be a little chilly, we are excited about summer.   Registration for all of our Town Summer Programs open Monday, April 1st!! Sign up for your favorite camps and try some of our new ones as well! Check out our NEW FLIPBOOK brochure!
Tawasentha 1/2 Day Camp is back for another great summer! The program is half day starting Monday, July 1st and is offered to children entering Kindergarten through 8th grade. There will be three sessions of camp, all of which are two weeks long, and the day camp will end on Friday, August 9th. Camp will be from 8:15am to 11:45am – the summer camp area is located at the Large Pavilion in Tawasentha Park (Camper drop off & check in). Besides the Tawasentha 1/2 Day Camp program, residents will have over 45 sports camps and 50 enrichment camps from which to choose. The pool at Tawasentha Park will once again offer the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program taught by certified lifeguards. The Town provides busing within the Town of Guilderland for the six-week day camp (and for a.m. sports & enrichment camps) from July 1st - August 9th.

New for 2019:  **Look Carefully ALL Routes Have Changed**

Please note all of the bus routes have changed for the 2019 summer camp season.  Two of our very popular character routes (Shrek and Ariel) were consolidated with other routes.  If you were previously on either of these routes, please know you will not be forgotten, you will just have a new character to remember.  Many routes have adjusted to corner pick-ups or central pick-up locations along the bus route.  Buses will not go down every street, enter every development or apartment complex.

For those that have utilized busing in the past, this year will be very similar.  We have 9 bus routes that run throughout Town to pick up children and bring them to Tawasentha Park.   Please find your bus and remember the cartoon character associated with the route!  Our bus pick-ups will again begin at 7:45am and this change is due to the heavy work traffic that delayed our buses in 2017 and caused campers to miss valuable camp time. Camp staff is on-site every morning at 8:00am if you wish to make early morning drop-off arrangements.  Every Monday, please be out waiting for the bus at 7:45am, that way you know what time to expect your pick-up later in the week.  Click here to view the 2019 Transportation Schedule.

Sports and Enrichment campers are welcomed and encouraged to take advantage of our transportation service as well.   If your child is going to a sports or enrichment camp, first your child will be brought to Tawasentha Park, and then transferred to a bus going to the location (schools and/or sports fields) of their camp. The time adjustment will allow plenty of time for the transition, without campers being rushed.  After your child’s camp, s/he will return to Tawasentha Park and then get on their bus route home.  Adults should be waiting for their kids to return from camp before 12pm, and buses will drop children off between 12pm and 12:20pm.

To help place your child in the appropriate group/camp/bus, ALL CAMPERS (including sports & enrichment campers), must bring the camp tag to the first day of each camp in their backpacks.  To view the camp tag, Click Here.

If you have any questions regarding busing, please call the Bus Supervisor at 518-952-5490 or the Parks & Recreation Office at 518-456-3150.  You can also stop by our office at 181 Route 146, Altamont, NY 12009, for assistance.

Families can enjoy our pocket parks, GPAC concert series on Thursday nights at 7:30pm, National Night Out (August 6, 2019), golf at Western Turnpike Golf Course and the use of over 5 miles of trails at Tawasentha Park, the Winter Recreation Area (adjacent to the park) and the Community Gardens. We hope you enjoy the summer of 2019!

Thank you for your patience.  We are looking forward to spending the summer with you!
